The 2006 Festival de Cannes, scheduled to take place May 17 – 28, will see a heavy Hong Kong presence. One of the world’s most celebrated filmmakers, Hong Kong director WONG Kar Wai will serve as Jury President this year. Several Hong Kong films have also been selected for this year’s official selection, with Johnnie TO’s latest film Election 2 participating in the Midnight Screenings category, & the Pang Brothers’ Re-cycle screening in the Un Certain Regard category. Two HAF filmmakers will also be participating in Cannes this year. LOU Ye (HAF 2005 director) will be joining the Competition Category with Summer Palace, and SU Chao Pin (HAF 2006 director) will also be having an official Midnight Screening.

This year a new Hong Kong Pavilion will be set up in the Village International during Marché du Film, the film market to be held concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival 2006. The Pavilion will serve as an ideal business support centre for Hong Kong film industry members to do business & network with international guests, and the HKTDC will be offering a series of services to maximise exposure, discover new opportunities and showcase the collective strength of the Hong Kong film and entertainment industries.

Complimentary services at the Pavilion include:

Spaces for meeting and organizing events
Screening of Hong Kong film trailers
Distribution of promotional materials of Hong Kong films
Others: advertisement opportunities in trade magazines

Hong Kong companies, non-Hong Kong companies working with Hong Kong & HAF filmmakers are welcome to make use of the above-mentioned services.
