Cute and Creative Stationeries Will Dominate in 2002

Over 150 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions converged at the Hong Kong International Stationery Fair from today (January 8) to showcase a wide array of stationery and printed products.

The fair jointly organised by the Trade Development Council (TDC) and Messe Frankfurt is held in concurrent with the Hong Kong Toys and Games Fair from January 8 to 11.

The fair this year maintains a high degree of internationality. Group pavilions from the Chinese mainland, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and new-comer India will make up the bulk of the exhibitors, joined by individuals from Canada, the Netherlands, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK and the US.

With a number of companies presenting cute and creative stationery items, buyers sourcing these types of products at the fair will not leave empty-handed. Quality materials such as aluminum, wood and glass, or a combination with plastic are also expected to be popular, and stationery items with bright colours and creative design, and those with novelty or multiple functions are still in demand.

Demand for home office products with unique design is also expected to grow. Computer consumables, value-for-money home office equipment and furniture will still be "in" this year.

Stationeries are now regarded as personal creativity products. Manufacturers have responded by expanding into higher-end design products not only for use, but also as a statement of one's working style. They aim to offer consumers a style alternative, rather than the mainstream gray, white or silver finishes.

Exhibits on show can be divided into six categories: writing equipment, paper and paper products, office supplies, artists' equipment, educational systems, children's stationery and school supplies.

Visitors to the fair will also be able to enhance their market knowledge and competitive advantage by attending the newly-added Market Seminar.
